Hazel Hughes

Registered Clinical Counsellor

Hazel is a Canadian settler of mixed European descent on the unceded and ancestral lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. She approaches this with humility, recognizing her privilege within colonial structures and her ongoing responsibility to engage in reconciliation. Hazel is curious about connection, purpose, and what it is to be human.

Her experiences as a student, traveller, and in community, have broadened her understanding of the systems that shape our world — and the ways these systems so often fail the most vulnerable. With support, she came to see inequity as an invitation to engage meaningfully in the world, acting in honour of connection, justice and integrity. Her sense of purpose grew not only from understanding life but from shaping it.

Working with Hazel, you can expect to be supported in slowing down and leading with emotion as a way of gently challenging beliefs, patterns and coping strategies that may no longer fit who you want to be. She brings a steady, collaborative presence to the therapeutic relationship, with careful attention to attunement, curiosity, and pace. She takes responsibility for creating a non-judgemental space that celebrates diversity and balances both scientific and creative approaches to healing — honouring you and the complexity of your inner world.

Hazel blends existential philosophy with person-centered, emotion-focused, anti-oppressive and somatic orientations.

Hazel remains grounded through her connection to nature, the bond she shares with her dog, and an ongoing practice of self-compassion
